TOP TRENDS

• 'Green' models:Responding to calls for environment-friendly automotive products both at home and abroad, suppliers are increasingly adopting piston check valves made of a rubber-plastic compound. Such components are more flexible and consume less energy than steel counterparts. Noise emission is also lower.
• Wider selection: Mono- and twin-tube models are offered. The former is popular in European and US cars, while twin-tube counterparts are common in vehicles from Asia manufacturers.
• Production/QC capability enhancements: Suppliers have upgraded R&D and manufacturing capability to ensure models conform to vehicle requirements. Many have obtained or are acquiring ISO/TS 16949 certification.
• Target markets: Makers are still fixed on traditional export destinations, namely the US, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Several are also targeting increased penetration of the domestic market. This is because despite the challenges, demand for shock absorbers and other vehicle parts in these areas remains large.
