China's IC design and manufacturing industry has grown steadily in the past two decades. During the early 90s when Motorola entered China as a pager maker, the only component sourced locally for the device was the iron chain. Foreign enterprises establishing facilities there had to rely on international providers for chip requirements. Now the country boasts more than 50 IC production lines and over 400 design houses. Several 12in lines were set up in recent years.

China suppliers of video door phones and intercom systems are ramping up product development to stimulate sales in coming months. Exports in the line dropped 30 percent during the past year but companies are confident that the industry will regain momentum. One of the factors that will make this possible is the real estate sector, which is showing signs of recovery from the economic challenges.

Intensive R&D among China suppliers has yielded new security metal detectors with heightened sensitivity and reduced false alarms. Continued technology advancements are allowing makers to adopt sensors that are immune to certain types of interference. These include the magnetic field in the vicinity, an electric surge from a power supply or another machine, high winds, vibrations and sudden movement.

Low-cost solutions pave the way for a broader product range, improving makers' chances at enhancing their export capability.

China's IP camera manufacturing industry will climb steadily through 2010 with a CAGR of about 50 percent. This comes amid an expanding supplier base, continuous network infrastructure development and decreasing production outlay. The emergence of local chipset providers, which can lower the technology threshold and component costs, is likewise expected to drive growth.
